This week, the 6th graders at Marlette Community Schools are exploring the concept of responsible citizenship and the structure of local government in their social studies classes. Today, they had the exciting opportunity to take a field trip to City Hall, where they met with several local officials, including Mayor Charlie Bush, City Manager Kristine Malzahn, Clerk Rebecca Slater, and Officer Sanchez.
This visit provided students with valuable insight into the various components of local government and the specific responsibilities associated with each department. They engaged actively by asking questions, sharing their opinions, and observing local officials in action.
A special thank you goes to City Hall for facilitating this enriching experience for the 6th graders. Mrs. Kady, their teacher, particularly valued this opportunity, having dedicated twenty-five years of service to the citizens of Marlette before transitioning to teaching. Throughout her career, she has worn many hats, serving as treasurer, deputy clerk, assessor, and interim city manager.
Mrs. Kady emphasized the significance of youth involvement in community volunteering, participation in local committees, and engagement in civic organizations. She also guided her students on how to gather accurate information about local government activities, whether at the city, township, or village level.
