The Marlette Board of Education seeks nominations for the 2025 “Friend of Youth.” This award intends to honor someone from our community who has significantly contributed to youth and youth programs. The person chosen by the Board will be honored at the Thumb Meet of Champions on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Shelley Roland, Marlette's beloved former band and choir director. Shelley dedicated many years to shaping and building the music program, inspiring generations of students with her passion, high expectations, and unwavering support. With her guidance, Marlette Band and Choir consistently excelled musically and culturally. She cared deeply for her students, always pushing them to be their best musically and personally.
Her legacy is still evident in Marlette and the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, but her impact will never be forgotten.
Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of learning from her.
