The Cross Country team competed at the Portage Invitational on Saturday, October 5, the biggest meet in the Midwest. Portage boasts a 165 team affair, divided into 4 divisions and spread over an entire Saturday. Marlette competed in the Division 4 races Saturday morning, in cool, dry conditions. The Lady Raiders made Marlette history with two girls medaling in the highly competitive meet. Senior Riley Ford (19:20) and Junior Emma Albertson (22:25) both medaled, with 4th and 44th places respectively. Senior Marissa Crase boasted her best finish and time in her 4 years at Portage with an season best of 24:30 and 82nd place. Junior Olivia Storm and freshman Abby Meyer rounded out the scoring with solid performances, just off their season bests. For the boys, senior Blake VanHorn continued his rookie season with another personal best, dropping almost a minute off of his time. Freshman Dakota McCombs ran a solid race and finished just off a season best. “The team ran very well and we are very happy with their progress this season. It was great to see Riley get her 4th Portage medal and be able to share the stage with Emma to make Marlette CC history. Marissa and Blake ran exceptionally well and we are happy with their personal bests. Dakota, Abby and Olivia are continuing to move in the right direction.” commented Coach Titus
