Senior Riley Ford capped off a spectacular Red Raider career with a State Champion runner-up title at the Division 4 Finals at Michigan International Speedway this past Saturday. Ford was in second place on the sloppy course from start to finish in the field of 238 runners. She fought off the third place finisher with less than a mile to go to finish with a time of 19:22.
This is the highest finish by any Marlette runner and she is the only girl to qualify for state all four years and to finish all-state three of those years. Riley will continue her running career next fall at Dalton State College in Georgia.
“We are so proud of all the hard work and dedication Riley has poured into her high school career. She worked tremendously hard and fought the entire race to earn the title of State Champion runner-up. Capping off back to back regional and league titles, three time all-state honors, and many individual wins, it was a great day for Riley and Marlette Cross Country.” said Coach Chris Titus

Have a great weekend and don't forget about daylight savings time ending this Sunday. Take advantage of that extra hour by testing your smoke alarms and changing batteries as needed.

Our 7th and 8th graders traveled to Temple Theater in Saginaw to see 5 short story plays performed by Boston Chamber Theater. Students enjoyed the humor and startling events in the plays. Their teachers were impressed with their behavior. 😊

Marlette Cross Country competed at the Regional meet at Wagner Park Saturday. Senior Riley Ford dominated the girls race, repeating as Regional Champion with a season best 19:02, 1 minute and 28 seconds ahead of the runner up. She led from start to finish and ran with determination. Next in for the Raiders was Junior Emma Albertson, who just missed a personal best and was 9 spots from qualifying. Senior Marissa Crase ended her Raider Cross Country career with a personal best of 23:17. Olivia Storm, Emily Martinez and Abby Meyer all ran good races for the Raiders. On the boys side rookie senior and rookie freshman, Blake VanHorn and Dakota McCombs finished their seasons with strong performances.
“We were hopeful to try to slide in as a team but hats off to Harbor Beach, Deckerville and Owen-Gage on their team performances. We were really excited to see how strong Riley ran and know that it’s always good to have momentum going into the state meet. Marissa ran a great race start to finish and it was great to see her end her career with her fastest time.“ said Coach Chris Titus
