STAFF HIGHLIGHT

Mrs. Karen Nicol has been with the Marlette Community Schools for 30 years.  She began her tenure as a teacher and recently moved into the Literacy Coach position.

"I chose to come to Marlette and continue my career because it is such a caring and supportive school community. I am very thankful for the special relationships I've made with so many Marlette families, community members and co-workers over the years."

"My favorite part of my job is working with children. I especially love the enthusiasm and the "Aha Moments" as young children learn to read. The children also teach me so much on a daily basis with their honesty and kindness. In addition, I am truly appreciative of the supportive families, staff, administration and school board who are always striving to help all students be successful."

Elementary Principal Jason Vislosky states, "Mrs. Nicol is amazing. It was a scary thought to take her out of the classroom because of the positive impact she has on her students, but I believe we have been able to effectively multiply her impact by helping our teachers and families. She is so dedicated that she usually has to move her car in the morning so the trucks can finish plowing our parking lot! Karen was named the Region 5 Teacher of the Year in 2019 and it shows in everything she does."
