Marlette Community Schools Bus Rules

The following rules are for the protection and safety of all who ride a school bus.

A substitute driver has the same authority as a regular driver.

Bus rules apply to students waiting at bus stop, as well as on field and athletic trips.

Arrive at the bus stop five (5) minutes prior to bus arrival and wait 10-20 feet from roadway. Do not enter the bus until it has come to a complete stop. When crossing in front of the bus, wait for the driver to give the hand signal that it is safe to cross and walk at least 10 feet in front of the bus so the driver can see student.

Enter the bus in an orderly fashion, find a seat and remain seated until arriving at destination.

Be courteous and respectful to the driver and other passengers. Keep the aisles clear. Do not put anything out the windows.

The emergency door and windows must stay closed except during an emergency situation.

Silence is required at all railroad crossings.

Student damage to the bus will require restitution.

The following items are not permitted on the bus for safety reasons: glass, animals, items too large to be kept on lap, matches/lighters and balloons. Spraying of perfumes and/or deodorants is also not allowed.

Riders will follow Student Handbook rules for tobacco and vape products and weapons.

Eating and drinking is not allowed.

Usage of WiFi and electronic devices will follow Student Handbook rules. Video recordings and picture taking is not allowed.

Bus drivers may issue a "referral of misconduct" for misbehavior to principals. Consequences may include one or more of the following: parent contact, student/parent conference, warning, assigned seat, or bus suspension.
