From the Desk of the Superintendent

Dear Red Raider Community:

The Thanksgiving season is a time to be reflective. As a school community we have faced challenges recently like never before. No matter where you turn, it seems like everyone is struggling or stressed out. It’s not a Marlette thing, it’s just a thing. Patience is short, nerves are bent, and people are tired and want to be heard. Our implementation of restorative practices in our buildings and the new 7 hour schedule is incredibly hard work under the best of circumstances but we continue to work hard to implement them with fidelity for our students. Staffing is also a concern and the struggle extends beyond Marlette and our classrooms. The bottom line is this: Change is not always easy for everyone and many times even the best will struggle.

Despite this, I’m thankful. There are lot of amazing things happening in our schools each and every day. I’m thankful for our supportive families. I’m thankful for our teaching staff and our teacher leaders. I’m thankful for ALL of our employees who give their heart and soul each and every day to support our children from Pre-K through grade 12. I’m thankful for a very committed Board of Education and their ideas, vision and leadership. I’m thankful for the dedication and tireless effort from the Marlette administrative team. Most importantly, I am thankful for our amazing students and the inspiration they bring us each day.

I am beyond thankful to be a part of #RedRaiderNation. I’m thankful for the fact that we are all on this journey together and our end goal is the same: We want what is best for our students and we want our students to succeed. Thank you for sharing your educational journey with us.

I wish each and every one of you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Matthew Karaffa

Superintendent
